Production Manager – dielectric testing and tool repair is a key position reporting directly to the Manager – Operations and facilities.
This position is considered a part of the operations team and is expected to provide guidance, oversight and supervision to two teams of production staff, one team engaged in the dielectric testing and recertification of rubber protective apparatus, the other engaged in the repair of a variety of tooling (mechanical, hydraulic, and battery operated) used in the utility construction industry.
The Production Manager will be directly responsible for the review and development of production practices that drive safety, quality, and efficiency throughout the testing and tooling areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a production schedule for two shifts (test lab only) designed to assure efficiency and flexibility in meeting customer needs.
Assure the compliance with not just NAIL testing requirements but best in class quality controls.
Lead a team of employees to achieve production KPI’s in a manner consistent with our strategic goals.
Be proficient in PLS’ P21 ERP system.
Work with the Customer Service team to communicate expected product deliveries to customers and meet established turnaround targets for tool repairs as well as quoted and pre-scheduled delivery dates for dielectric safety products.
Responsible for training the staff and assuring compliance with the documented and NAIL accredited dielectric testing process.
Establish best in class process for the receipt, evaluation, repair and return of tools used in the utility construction industry.
Review current processes and implement improvements to drive efficiency and quality improvements.
Attend, lead, and report on, the weekly and/or monthly team debriefs.
Work with purchasing to assure availability of common repair parts and new replacement dielectric apparatus.
Coordinate with purchasing the return to manufacturer failed “new” product.
SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) development/implementation, training of new hires and implementation of new procedures and policies.
Maintain test lab and tool repair area conditions and cleanliness to follow our 5S philosophy.
Responsible for the condition of all test and repair equipment, including requirements for any calibrations, certifications, or routine maintenance.
Complete Daily, Weekly and Monthly reports as requested.
Develop and establish “best in class” processes and procedures.
Maintain and hold staff / equipment operators accountable for “Best in Class” safety practices.
Coordinate with sales and customer service team to schedule and complete field testing requirements.
Maintain field test schedule designed to maximize efficiency and availability of field test staff.
Thoroughly understand customer needs and establish best practice to assure that our staff conform to all customer operations and safety practices when on their site.
Lead occasional customer tours of facilities as required.
Understand the OSHA rules and regulations relevant to the tools and equipment we test and certify.
Assure 24/7 response time for customer emergencies and storm requirements.
All other duties as assigned.
Preferred: Associates degree+ in business or in a related field
Required: Experience in production scheduling, production management or a related area.
Required: Experience in a production planning/scheduling role.
SKILLS: Must have the ability to manage all aspects of a production team. Must have a working knowledge of various customer service processes and strategies. Must possess leadership skills and the ability to work closely with diverse groups of people, including company employees at all levels, owners, suppliers, and other outside professionals with whom the company deals on a regular basis. In addition, must be able to work with and lead people, negotiate, speak publicly, analyze problems and translate company goals into actions necessary to achieve the goals. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office products is required.
TRAVEL: Limited travel may be required.
